Wine biscuits
These crunchy cookies take their name from the white wine they’re made with.

1 cup white wine
1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 cup sugar, plus 1⁄2 cup
51⁄2 cups flour
1⁄4 cup Mistrà (star anise liqueur) - or substitute anisette
11⁄2 tablespoons anise seeds
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350°. Mix together all ingredients except the cinnamon and 1⁄2 cup of the sugar. Let the dough rest for at least 15 minutes, then roll into logs about 4 inches long. Mix cinnamon and remaining sugar together, and roll dough in this mixture. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool slightly, then slice 1⁄2-inch thick, place on cookie sheets, and bake at 400° for 5 to 10 minutes, until cookies dry out. Serve with a sweet dessert wine.
